SOLVE BEGINS IN HALIFAX:
On December 06, 2004, SOLVE for managers got underway through the direction of Halifax’s Regional Coordinator Jeff McAulay. This presentation was an overview of the program which will be delivered to all IAMAW members in the form of SOLVE For Workers and the designated micro-solves that follow.
SOLVE was first introduced in Montreal to the IAMAW in January of this year which included all the regional coordinators as well as all of Air Canada’s Vice Presidents and Company Doctor . The SOLVE program was delivered by Dr. David Gold and his assistants of the International Labor Office in Geneva, Switzerland.
What is SOLVE?
SOLVE is an interactive educational program designed to assist in the development of policy and action to address psychosocial issues at the workplace
The SOLVE Concept.
Stress, alcohol and drugs, violence (both physical and psychological), HIV/AIDS and tobacco all lead to health-related problems for the worker and lower productivity for the company. Taken together they represent a contributing cause of accidents, fatal injuries, disease and absenteeism at work. These problems may emerge due to the interaction between home and work, they may start at work and be carried home (or into the community) or vice versa. SOLVE focuses on prevention.
The SOLVE program will be expanding in the areas of gambling, sleep deprivation, nutrition and fitness. It is expected to continue until 2007.
